New Mercies Every Morning

Lamentations 3:22-23: It is of the LORD*S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Psalms 103:10: He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

These truths apply to both unbelievers and believers. For unbelievers it is miraculous that they are not consumed because none of their sins have been forgiven. For believers it is also miraculous that we are not consumed because we too sin much too often.

Romans 12:1-2: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Our very survival happens only because of the mercy of God. Everything on this side of Hell is caused by His mercy. The eternal rewards we can earn are because of mercy upon mercy. It is because of His mercy that we have an opportunity each day to present our bodies to Him. It is because of His mercy that He looks upon our little daily commitment to Him as holy and acceptable to Him. It is because of His mercy that we can be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Every good thing we have or have ever had is because of His mercy. We can only have His mercy because the justice that we deserve fell on the Lord Jesus on that cruel cross. We ought to be grateful for His mercy all day every day. It will help our Christian walk and our assurance of salvation greatly if we remember often that everything is because of His mercy. As long as there are mornings His children will need His mercy and they shall always have it.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon:

If we ever meet with occasions which deserve to be called *crowning mercies* then, surely, if He hath crowned us, we ought also to . . . let our God sit upon the throne of our love. Have we lately received some blessing which we little expected? Has the Lord put our feet in a large room? Can we sing of mercies multiplied? Inasmuch as we need the fulfillment of new promises from God, let us offer renewed prayers.
